Vietnam is one of the world’s largest coffee producers and is particularly famous for its bold, full-bodied Robusta. But in the highlands around Đà Lạt, a growing speciality Arabica scene is showcasing another exciting side of Vietnamese coffee.
Indonesia is a paradise that you’ll never forget. Scooter riding, waves crashing, island hopping and having all of your belongings stolen by monkeys in Ubud. That’s what it’s all about.
It’s also home to an incredibly diverse coffee-growing landscape.
Across islands such as Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi, producers grow coffee in different climates, elevations and volcanic soils, creating a wide variety of flavour profiles.
From rich, earthy characteristics to bright, fruit-forward flavours, Indonesian coffee has plenty of surprises waiting to be discovered.
The diversity of Thailand is next level. Stunning beaches, beautiful trekking and probably a few late nights followed by a few sore heads. There is something for everyone and its energy and charm make it a paradise for young backpackers and more relaxed holiday makers alike.
And hidden among its northern highlands is a speciality coffee scene that’s becoming increasingly exciting. In regions such as Chiang Rai, Thailand’s speciality coffee industry has grown considerably in recent years, with producers placing increasing emphasis on quality, traceability and innovative processing.
India is a sensory overload of colours, flavours, and traditions. Wander the bustling markets in Delhi and find peace in the Himalayas. Brave tuk tuks through the chaotic streets, and experience spiritual havens of Varanasi and Rishikesh. From beach vibes in Goa to desert adventures in Rajasthan, in India every day is an adventure.
India also has a fascinating coffee history, with cultivation dating back centuries. Much of the country’s coffee is grown in the southern regions of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, often beneath the shade of trees alongside spices and other crops. Indian producers grow both Arabica and Robusta, with a growing speciality coffee scene exploring new approaches to processing and quality.
China is an adventure packed with history and culture. Hike the Great Wall, wander ancient hutongs in Beijing, get lost in Shanghai’s neon-lit streets, savor spicy hotpots and fall in love with rural gems like Yangshuo.
While China might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of coffee, its speciality coffee industry is developing rapidly. Much of the country’s coffee is grown in Yunnan province, where mountainous landscapes and favourable growing conditions provide an environment for Arabica cultivation. Producers are increasingly experimenting with washed, natural and anaerobic processing, creating coffees with exciting fruit, floral and sweet characteristics.
Timor-Leste is an off-the-beaten-path unique adventure filled with rugged landscapes and warm hospitality. Explore the untouched beaches and crystal-clear waters of Atauro Island, trek through the lush mountains of Maubisse and soak in the deep cultural heritage of the capital Dili.
Coffee has played an important role in the country’s history and remains a significant agricultural export. Much of Timor-Leste’s coffee is grown by smallholder farmers in mountainous regions, where higher elevations and favourable growing conditions support Arabica production. With growing attention on quality and traceability, Timor-Leste is an origin with an exciting future in speciality coffee.
