Nam Song began after we fell in love with the incredible region of Asia whilst travelling on our gap year. When we got back home to Sheffield we set up our own coffee shop to share the Vietnamese Phin Filter Coffee we’d discovered on our travels, however we quickly became frustrated with the availability of high quality Asian Coffee in the UK. To solve this problem we have diversified Nam Song and created our own retail brand to champion specialty coffee exclusively from different origins in Asia.
Nam Song is one of the most unique and original emerging Coffee brands in the UK and the popularity of our concept is evident with us having quickly gained early-stage traction in both B2C and B2B markets. It’s not just our coffee that helps us stand out, we’ve also had initial success with the application of Nam Song Phin Filters as a brewing method for any type of coffee and this is an exciting area upon which we will look to build future growth.
We are looking to bring on board a Head of Coffee in a senior leadership role that will be vital for the development and growth of our unique retail brand that has aspirations to disrupt the UK coffee market.
In this role you will be responsible for the following
Coffee & Roasting Programme
- Lead and manage roasting operations of the whole business
- Oversee green coffee purchasing from existing and new Asian Origins
- Develop, maintain, and refine roast profiles across the full range as well as introducing new offerings
- Manage inventory to reach operational and financial targets
- Maintain quality control standards through cupping and sensory development
- Collaborate with company directors on new releases, lead development, and brand development projects
- Building a strong and productive coffee team to facilitate short and long-term business goals
Operations & Production
- Ensure production and fulfilment operations run effectively and efficiently
- Oversee workflow and logistics development
- Be responsible for equipment cleaning and maintenance
- Uphold compliance with food hygiene and H&S standards
Business Strategy and Development
- Contribute to business planning as well as procurement and production strategy
- Work on training programs to align with the core values and ideals of the business
- Within the initial period of the role you will be required to spend time on developing leads to generate sales within the speciality coffee sector
- Develop strategies to help grow the market share of Nam Song Phin Filter products as home brewing methods to rival alternatives like the Aeropress and V60
- Identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and operational improvement both in the day-to-day and long-term
About You
- Minimum 3–4 years’ experience in coffee roasting, production, or operations management with experience managing and developing a team
- We want to enjoy going to work with great people so strong leadership, organisational and personable skills are a must
- Experience visiting Asia would be ideal but if not then a general enthusiasm for travelling and experiencing the world is a must
- Confident operating and maintaining roasting equipment
- Excellent understanding of coffee sourcing, flavour profiling, and quality assurance
- Passionate about grasping an exciting opportunity to change the market that doesn’t come around often
- Must be based within or willing to relocate to commuting distance of Sheffield
