Vietnam is the world’s second largest producer of coffee which has a fascinating history of coffee cultivation dating back to the 19th century. By the early 20th century the country was growing primarily Robusta beans, which suited its climate and terrain, that quickly became one of it’s major agricultural exports.
Coffee culture in Vietnam has continued to evolve, with the introduction of unique beverages like Cà Phê Sữa Đá (Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk) and Cà Phê Trứng (Egg Coffee), which have now become national icons.
The Central Highlands are the main area of coffee production in Vietnam and Cud Lie Mnong Coop is located in Cu Mgar district of Dak Lak province in the central highlands of Vietnam. The coop received Fairtrade Certification in 2009 and currently has 84 members. Dak Lak‘s coffee farmers have a long history of cultivation, and the province has become one of the leading producers of specialty coffee in Vietnam.
The region’s coffee is prized for its smooth, aromatic flavor with a balance of acidity and sweetness, often considered more refined compared to the country’s dominant Robusta beans. In addition to coffee farming, the province’s picturesque landscapes of rolling hills, misty valleys, and colorful flower fields offer a stunning backdrop to this vital coffee-growing hub.
